When rowing ends on Thanksgiving, my season-long reliance on its predictability goes too. So, I'll look for reinforcements to sustain me during this winter of discontent.
ugh college boys are the worst - youngsters mindlessly imitating their badly-behaving elders. And the young people are supposed to save us? My money's on the Erins and Emmas to lead the way.
Finding light is essential. I gave my mom the gift of one of those really bright lights to turn on when the darkness set in early. It made a huge difference for her.
Great description of the stroke cycle. I want to paste it up in my gym so all the people who row the ERG badly can see how it is done! Wonderful article as always and fantastic seeing you in SF. ❤️
Another great collection of observations and thoughts. I'm not a rower (maybe someday!) but have always admired the rhythms and the teamwork that you described so well. As for going into the doldrum (to me) months, I got out the white lights for the windows (and a string in the kitchen) extra early this year to bring some cheer into the abode and myself!
